The first border has continuous moose with antlers, the second border with an hourglass design, followed by a border with horsemen and the outside border with stylized animals. Most of rug was in good condition when it was discovered.  There is a picture carved in stone from Persepolis that is over 2000 years old showing an ambassador presenting a rug as a gift to the Persian King.
