Our Accent Rugs Will Floor You
Like a colorful kerchief tucked into a blazer pocket, area rugs can give a colorful snap to a roomfull of furnishings. Whether you lay a rug atop a floor that’s already carpetedĀ or clad in wood, your area area rug can serve as a rooms star or as an important supporting player.
*Let a rug set a palette. Finding the right rug isn’t easy, so if you find a rug you love, consider making it the first element you choose for your room. Then make everything else fit around the rug’s color.
*Enhance an existing color scheme. If you’ve already furnished the room, choose an area rug that pulls together the dominant or accent colors. In a roomful of busy fabric patterns, consider a solid-color rug with contrasting border.
*Make it a focal point. If you want a rug to be the center of attention, choose one with bright colors-in the richest values of hues in the rooms pallate-and strong contrast between the colors within the the rug’s design. Also consider shapely variety: A round rug in a roomful of square furnishings can make a bold statement.
*Define furniture groupings. One of the best uses of an area rug is to pull together a conversation group. By touching all of the furniture in the group, the rug will visually knit an area together, creating intimacy and drawing the eye. Rug size matters here; seating pieces in an ideal situation should either be all on or all off the rug. However this is not always possible.
